I know somebody who suggested that men should recruit for an ACTS retreat by whispering to other men that the whole ACTS retreat thing is just an excuse for men to get together to watch college and NFL football games on big screen TVs all weekend while their wives thought the were doing something spiritual.
It was a great idea! But for some reason nobody followed my suggestion. :-(
I totally got away with another lie however. I told a relative I was recruiting to an ACTS retreat that, since I was on the ACTS team, I could get him into the retreat for free. He bought it hook, line and swivel. He went on the retreat and deeply thanked me for really enjoyed the experience. The truth is that not only do ACTS team members not get to bring someone for free, the ACTS team members have to pay as much or more as the retreatants for the privilege of working at an ACTS retreat. But often it is worth paying the fee of a close friend or family member just to get the "thank you" hug after the retreat is over. I don't think I am the only one who has told that lie.
